Essential Duties

Include the following. Other duties may be assigned.


  • Informs Maintenance and/or Floor Manager of needed parts and equipment. May be required to obtain parts from outside vendors.  
  • Assist Maintenance and/or Floor Manager with the delivery of trucks to the service center to ensure timely repair and maintenance of each unit.  
  • Following review of the driver’s pre-trip and post-trip inspections by either the Maintenance and/or Floor Manager, fulfills repair requests to begin repair and maintenance of the truck. Monitors this function by documenting each request with a proper work order where applicable. 
  • Reads job order and observes and listens to truck in operation to determine malfunction and to plan work procedures. Diagnose and repair/replace various parts/components that have failed or are causing malfunctions on the equipment, such as transmission, engines, drain lines, rear axles, gear boxes, and hydraulic components.  
  • Operates shop tools, cutting torch, or welding equipment to perform necessary repairs. Fabricates and repairs all MTI and HQI equipment and structures.
  • Travels to job sites, including the quarry, sandpit and other concrete plants on an as-needed basis to address problems/issues.
  • As scheduled by the Maintenance and/or Floor Manager, performs routine preventative maintenance and repairs as needed.  
  • Responsible for the delivery of fuel to various locations off-site including the sandpit and Plant #2 as needed.
  • Responsible for the overall production of the shop by being involved with the daily maintenance procedures from start-up to shut-down measures.  
  • Maintains a clean, organized and orderly work area.  
  • Other duties or special projects as assigned by management.

This position includes these physical demands:  reaching, handling, pulling, fingering and/or

feeling; (Reaching -- extending and pulling the hand(s) and arm(s) in any direction while working with various tools as mentioned before). (Handling -- seizing, holding, grasping, turning, pulling, or otherwise working with hands and arms)(Pulling -- using arms in such a way as pulling of tools, wrenches, parts, and equipment to complete the job).  (Fingering -- picking, pinching, or otherwise working with fingers primarily (rather than with whole hand or arm as in handling). (Feeling -- being able to determine objects such as size, shape, temperature or texture by means of receptors in skin, particularly those of finger tips.)


This is moderate to heavy work.


  1. Must be able to exert up to 100 lbs. of force occasionally (5 times per day) and/or up to 50 pounds of force frequently (50 times per day) and up to 25 lbs. of force on a regular basis   through the day, depending on work related circumstances.
  2. Must be able to lift objects from floor to above shoulder level and be able to lift from lying position on back overhead. Must be able to move objects/part/tools and equipment from one area to another and one level to another level.


JOB HAZARDS:


  1. There are periodic high noise levels and vibration associated with this job. Sources include: engine noise, air compressors, air powered equipment, and other shop noises.  Also, there is possibly sufficient noise, either constant or intermittent to cause possible hearing loss.
  2. There are a variety of physical hazards in which there is danger to life, health, or bodily injury, such as proximity to moving mechanical parts, moving equipment, heavy parts, electrical shock, engine exhaust, working on elevated equipment, exposure to burns and radiant energy, exposure to explosives (gases) and exposure to toxic chemicals and biological agents.
  3. Machines, tools, equipment, and work aids which may be representative, but not all inclusive, of those commonly associated with this type of work.
  4. Air power tools, electric drill, drill press, grinders (both hand and bench), wrenches, torches, welders, a variety of hand tools, air chipping hammers, and electric cords.

The majority of the time will be inside conditions with protection from weather conditions, but not necessarily from temperature changes. Some work is outside working conditions with no control over weather conditions.

Shop Mecanic

Summary

Under the direction of the Maintenance Manager and/or Floor Manager, is responsible for the maintenance of the fleet vehicles, shop facilities, concrete plants, quarry, sandpit and related equipment.

Qualification Requirements

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.   



EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE

High School Diploma or GED.


A minimum of 3 years experience in truck maintenance required and experience in heavy equipment preferred. Must be able to weld and fabricate and operate other shop equipment and power tools.



MATHEMATICAL SKILLS 

Ability to apply simple mathematical concepts as applicable.



COMMUNICATION SKILLS

Must be able to communicate effectively with management, other mechanics and drivers.



LANGUAGE SKILLS    

Able to read, write and speak English.  Spanish preferred.
